What is HD[edit]

HD = High Definition

HD refers to high definition content. Mostly it is used for definition of the video resolution.

  • HDTV: High Definition TeleVision: television which frame resolution is higher than the standard traditional TV. (720p or 1080p)
  • HD Video: definition of the picture (frame) resolution of the video, which is 720p or 1080p/1080i.
  • HD DVD: High Definition Digital Versatile Disc or High Definition Digital Video Disc (an optical disc type which could store 15 Gb data / layer, it was used for storing High Definition videos)

Most of the smartphones can record HD video, which refers only to the picture resolution. Several other factors determines the picture quality, for example the codec, bitrate, FPS (frame per sec).

HD resolutions[edit]

  • 720p: 1280 x 720 (921600 pixels, ~0,9 Megapixels)
  • 1080p: 1920 x 1080 (2073600 pixels, ~2 Megapixels)
